Stone Temple Pilots singer Weiland pleads no contest to DUI

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Scott Weiland has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge and was sentenced to eight days in jail.The 40-year-old rocker entered the plea through his attorney in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday. He also was sentenced to four years’ probation and must take part in an 18-month alcohol program.

Weiland came to fame as the lead singer of 1990s Stone Temple Pilots, who regrouped after Weiland split this month from Velvet Revolver, a band also featuring former members of Guns N’ Roses.

Stone Temple Pilots are scheduled to embark on a 65-city tour May 17. Weiland must serve his jail time by May 28. Weiland was arrested Nov. 21 on a San Fernando Valley freeway off-ramp.

It was the second DUI conviction for Weiland, who has been dogged by substance problems throughout his career.

Angie Everhart arrested for DUI

 

Model/Actress Angie Everhart (38) has been arrested for drinking and driving - just days after splitting up with longtime boyfriend Joe Pesci. The 38-year-old was arrested around 2am on Thursday in LA after failing a DUI sobriety test.

The Denial star was held on $15,000 bond but was released later that day. She is due in court on May 15, 2008. It hasn’t been a good time lately for Sylvester Stallone’s ex - last week, Joe Pesci (65) ended his engagement to Everhart, nine months after proposing. The couple had been together for seven years.

Sandra Bullock, husband unhurt in car accident

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A car carrying actress Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James, was hit by a drunk driver, but no one involved in the accident was hurt, People magazinehas reported on its website. The magazine said Saturday that the accident occurred late Friday in Gloucester, Massachusettswhere Bullock is filming “The Proposal on Cape Ann.”

The driver of the Subaru, identified as Lucille Gatchell, 64, was administered a and showed two and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in her blood, the report said.

Britney Spears in minor car accident

LOS ANGELES - The pop star was involved in a late Saturday, but no one was injured and no vehicles were damaged, authorities said. Spears was driving her 2008 Mercedes on the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of the 405 freeway about 8:20 p.m. when the mishap occurred, said Officer Patrick Kimball.

Spears was in stop-and-go traffic when her car struck a 2006 Nissan in front of her that had stopped. The Nissan then pushed forward into another vehicle. No damage was noted to any of the vehicles.

The CHP took a report and no one was cited.An after-hours e-mail sent to Spears’ publicist was not returned early Sunday.In 2006, Spears was photographed driving with her son on her lap.A misdemeanor hit-and-run charge from an August 2007 parking lot crash was dismissed after she paid an undisclosed amount to the car’s owner.

In October, she pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a valid driver’s license and later obtained a temporary California license.

O.C. Actor pleads no contest

Mischa Barton pleaded no contest to her DUI charge (see previous posting). She was arrested in Decmber 2007 when police “saw her straddling 2 lanes of traffic and failure to signal when making a turn.”

Mischa’s attorney also had her driving without a license charge reduced to an infraction. She was sentenced to 3 years probation, almost $2,000 in fines and has to complete a 3 month alcohol ed class.
